Weltumseglung WORLD ACR 2025
Weltumsegelung mit der SY MONTANA im Rahmen der World ARC 2025-2026
Eine Weltumseglung ist ein großes Projekt und bedarf sehr guter Vorbereitung, das richtige Schiff, den richtigen Skipper und nicht zuletzt der richtigen Crew.
Die Vorbereitung ist im Gange und ich habe mich entschlossen, eine Weltumseglung im Rahmen der World ARC 2025-26 anzubieten. Die Montana wird in 2024 aus einem technischen Refit kommen, der in Hamburg stattgefunden haben wird. Ich, der Skipper habe insgesamt 12 Atlantiküberquerungen als Skipper gesegelt, 8 davon in den letzten 4 Jahren, mit der Montana (ca. 40.000 sm). Nun bin ich auf der Suche nach der richtigen Crew für eine Weltumseglung!
Die World ARC hat gegenüber einer individuell geplanten Weltumseglung viele Vorteile:
- Es handelt sich um eine organisierte Veranstaltung von einem erfahrenen Veranstalter.
- Die individuelle Sicherheit wird durch das Segeln in einer Gruppe von Schiffen erhöht.
- Die Kameradschaft und Freundschaften Gleichgesinnter wird gefördert.
- Hilfe beim Einklarieren, Reparaturen, Ersatzteilen oder auch nur beim besten Restaurant am Platze.
- Der feste Etappenplan macht Heimflüge möglich, und auf See sind Wetterberichte, tägliche Funkkontakte und Bootstracking per Satellit gewährleistet.
Die Route folgt der klassischen Passatroute, so werden Gebiete mit instabilen politischen Verhältnissen, Piraterie und die Zeiten tropischer Stürme in beiden Hemisphären gemieden.
Nach dem Start in St. Lucia geht es über die San Blas Inseln nach Panama, wo durch den Kanal gefahren wird.
Von Panama aus, geht es weiter über die Galapagos Inseln zu den Marquesas. Weitere Stopps in der Südsee sind Tahiti und Bora Bora, Tonga, Fidschi, Vanuatu. Dies sind Inseln, auf die man sonst wohl nur schwerlich kommen würde. Australien wird auf der Nordseite passiert, mit einem Stopp in Darwin. Von dort geht es über Lombok zu den Cocos Inseln. Weitere Stopps im indischen Ozean sind Mauritius und Reunion, von wo es aus nach Richards Bay in Südafrika geht.
Der Weg nach Kapstadt kann frei gestaltet werden mit Stopps in Durban, Port Elizabeth oder Mossel Bay. In Kapstadt findet ein längerer Aufenthalt statt, um den Rally Teilnehmern die Möglichkeit zu geben, über Weihnachten und Neujahr nach Hause fliegen zu können.
Im neuen Jahr geht es dann weiter über Lüderitz/Namibia und St. Helena nach Salvador in Brasilien. Im letzten Abschnitt wird nach Grenada gesegelt, um dann die letzten paar Meilen im Konvoi zurück nach St. Lucia zu segeln.
Die genauen Termine der einzelnen Etappen stehen zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt noch nicht fest, generell startet die World ARC jedoch am ersten Samstag im Januar und dauert bis Mitte April im Folgejahr.
Im ersten Schritt möchte ich eine Gruppe von Interessenten zusammenstellen. Aus meinem Kreis der ehemaligen Mitsegler gibt es schon Anfragen.
Eine wichtige Herausforderung der Crew wird sein, mit 6 Personen über 15 Monaten auf engem Raum zusammen zu leben. Deshalb spielen die Charaktereigenschaften der Crew eine überragende Rolle für den Erfolg der Weltumseglung. Teamfähigkeit, Anpassungsfähigkeit, Bescheidenheit, Großzügigkeit sind zum Beispiel erwünsche Fähigkeiten.
Des Weiteren müssen im Vorfeld schon alle möglichen Reibungspunkte geklärt sein. Ich denke da an die Themen:
- Rauchen an Bord
- Essen (Fleisch, vegetarisch, vegan)
- Geld (eine Weltumsegelung ist nicht umsonst zu haben, Diskussionen um ein paar Euro sind fehl am Platz)
- Crew Zusammenstellung (Unisex oder gemischt, mit Paaren oder nur Singles), körperliche Verfassung, Fitness
- Konsens über die Art und Weise des Zusammenlebens
Um diese Fragen zu klären sind Crewtreffen im Vorfeld unbedingt erforderlich, genauso wie ein vorheriger Segeltörn auf der Montana.
Da wir die Montana im Winter 2023-2024 in Hamburg in die Werft geben, besteht die Möglichkeit in dieser Zeit ein oder mehrere Vortreffen in Deutschland abzuhalten. Ebenso besteht auf dem Weg von Hamburg zu den Kanaren im Sommer 2024 die Möglichkeit die Montana und mich auf einem Törn näher kennenzulernen.
An den Stopover Orten entlang der World ARC Route stelle ich mir vor, dass Crewmitglieder oder auch ich sich gelegentlich für ein paar Tage in ein Hotel oder AirBnB einbuchen. Eine Auszeit vom Crewleben an Bord kann Wunder bewirken.
Die Kosten:
Wie schon erwähnt, ist eine Weltumsegelung nicht umsonst zu haben. Es gibt Leute, die vergleichen eine Weltumsegelung mit einer Mount Everest Besteigung. Dafür werden heutzutage 100.000€ aufgerufen. Segelpublikationen beziffern den Preis einer Weltumseglung mit 50.000€.
Für die gesamte World ARC stelle ich mir einen Törnpreis von 27.000€ + Stargebühr + Bordkasse vor.
Für die World ARC 2024/25 würde die Startgebühr für die Montana + 6 Personen 38.000 Britische Pfund betragen. Die Gebühr für 25/26 ist noch nicht veröffentlicht. Es müsste hier pro Person mit 7.600 Britische Pfund gerechnet werden.

Nach unserer Bestätigung UND der Überweisung einer Anzahlung von 20% der Törngebühr ist der Törn für Dich gebucht und der Platz an Bord wird für Dich freigehalten. Das Konto ist dem zugesendeten Anschreiben zu entnehmen. Die Restzahlung für den Törn wird bis spätestens 4 Wochen vor Törnbeginn fällig.
Für den seltenen Fall, dass Du Dir einen Platz für eine Atlantik Passage durch eine Anzahlung reservieren möchtest, aber das Telefongespräch mit Markus nicht zeitnah stattfinden kann, weil er gerade unterwegs ist, würdest Du selbstverständlich Deine Anzahlung zu 100% zurückbekommen, wenn der Törn für Dich nicht zu Stande kommt.

Circumnavigation with the SY MONTANA as part of the World ARC 2025-2026
A circumnavigation is a big project and requires very good preparation, the right ship, the right skipper and, last but not least, the right crew.
Preparation is underway and I have decided to offer a circumnavigation as part of World ARC 2025-26. The Montana will come out of a technical refit in 2024 that will have taken place in Hamburg. I, the skipper, have sailed a total of 12 Atlantic crossings as skipper, 8 of them in the last 4 years, with the Montana (approx. 40,000 nm). Now I'm looking for the right crew!
The World ARC has many advantages over an individually planned circumnavigation:
- It is an organized event by an experienced promoter.
- Individual safety is increased by sailing in a group of ships.
- The camaraderie and friendships of like-minded people are encouraged.
- Help with checking in, repairs, spare parts or even just the best restaurant in town.
- The fixed stage plan makes flights home possible, and at sea weather reports, daily radio contacts and boat tracking via satellite are guaranteed.
The route follows the classic trade wind route, avoiding areas with unstable political conditions, piracy and periods of tropical storms in both hemispheres.
After the start in St. Lucia it goes via the San Blas Islands to Panama, where the boat sails through the canal.
From Panama, we continue via the Galapagos Islands to the Marquesas. Other stops in the South Pacific include Tahiti and Bora Bora, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu. These are islands that would be difficult to get to otherwise.
Australia is passed on the north side, with a stop in Darwin. From there it goes via Lombok to the Cocos Islands. Other stops in the Indian Ocean include Mauritius and Reunion, from where it goes to Richards Bay in South Africa.
The route to Cape Town can be freely designed with stops in Durban, Port Elizabeth or Mossel Bay. An extended stay will be held in Cape Town to give Rally participants the opportunity to fly home over the Christmas and New Year period.
In the new year we continue via Lüderitz/Namibia and St. Helena to Salvador in Brazil. The final leg sails to Grenada before sailing the last few miles in convoy back to St. Lucia.
The exact dates of the individual stages have not yet been determined at this point in time, but the World ARC generally starts on the first Saturday in January and lasts until mid-April in the following year.
As a first step, I would like to put together a group of interested parties. I have already received inquiries from my circle of former fellow sailors.
An important challenge for the crew will be living in a small space with 6 people over 15 months old. Therefore, the character traits of the crew play an outstanding role in the success of the circumnavigation. For example, teamwork, adaptability, humility, generosity are desirable skills.
Furthermore, all possible points of friction must be clarified in advance. I'm thinking of the following topics:
- Smoking on board
- Food (meat, vegetarian, vegan)
- Money (a circumnavigation is not for free, discussions about a few euros are out of place)
- Crew composition (unisex or mixed, with couples or just singles), physical condition, fitness
- Consensus on the way of living together
In order to clarify these questions, crew meetings in advance are absolutely necessary, as is a previous sailing trip on the Montana.
Since we are giving the Montana to the shipyard in Hamburg in the winter of 2023-2024, there is the possibility of holding one or more preliminary meetings in Germany during this time. Likewise, on the way from Hamburg to the Canary Islands in the summer of 2024, there is the opportunity to get to know the Montana and me better on a cruise.
At the stopover locations along the World ARC route, I imagine that crew members or I occasionally book into a hotel or AirBnB for a few days. A break from crew life on board can do wonders.
The costs:
As already mentioned, a circumnavigation does not come for free. There are people who compare sailing around the world with climbing Mount Everest. Nowadays, €100,000 is called for. Sailing publications put the price of a circumnavigation at €50,000.
For the entire World ARC, I imagine a trip price of €27.000 + star fee + on-board cash.
For World ARC 2024/25 the entry fee for the Montana + 6 people would be £38,000. The fee for 25/26 is not yet published. So that you have to expect £7.600 per person.

What happens next?
Once you have clicked "send", we will contact you immediately by email (usually within 24 hours). In most cases, your request can be confirmed directly by us in this email. You will receive a cover letter and a fact sheet with this email.
For Atlantik crossings, however, Markus would like to have a phone conversation with you before confirming your request, in order to get to know you better and to compare mutual expectations.

After our confirmation AND the transfer of a deposit of 20% of the cruise fee, the cruise is booked for you and the place on board is kept free for you. The bank account can be found in the letter sent to you. The final payment for the cruise is due 4 weeks before the start of the cruise at the latest.
In the rare case that you would like to reserve a place for an Atlantic crossing by a deposit, but the phone call with Markus can not take place in time because he is out sailing, you would of course get your full deposit back if the trip does not take place for you.
